  • 1. How to I thaw use the frozen cubes?

The frozen cubes should thaw within 5 minutes in water. The cube may not totally break up due to the high density of our Spirulina.

Use a whisk to mix/stir the cube?

You can also add it to a glass of water the night before and keep in the refrigerator. It should be ready to consume in the am.

  • 2. How long will Royal Spirulina stay fresh in the freezer?

From a freshness standpoint (maximum nutrient value) Royal Spirulina contains 30 billion living cells per 1lbs and is 100% fresh, whole and alive the moment of harvest. These cells (imagine tiny water balloons) do not contain a cellulose cell structure like most vegetables do so over time they begin to break down like any raw vegetable.
From a safe shelf life standpoint, Royal Spirulina is safe to consume after 8 months if kept it frozen. (Max. time tested)

  • 3. What is Royal Spirulina?

Royal Spirulina is a fresh and truly alive “blue green algae” complete whole superfood.
As ecologically-sound and nutrient-rich spirulina is being investigated to address food security, malnutrition, and as dietary support in long-term space flight or Mars missions. Its interest for food security is for lower land and water needs to produce protein and energy.
Living spirulina contains 24% carbohydrates, 8% fat, and about (51–71%) protein. It is a complete protein source, containing all essential amino acids.
It is a rich bioavailable source of numerous essential nutrients, particularly B vitamins (thiamin and riboflavin, 207% and 306% DV, respectively) and dietary minerals, such as iron (219% DV) and manganese (90% DV).
The lipid content of living spirulina is 8% by weight providing the fatty acids, gamma-linolenic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, linoleic acid, stearidonic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, and arachidonic acid.

  • 4. How was the price value established for Royal Spirulina?

There are many factors (new cost of 10 acre organic farm, plant based high quality nutrients, complete cleaning every 3 months of our systems, staff [biologists, master grower, health educators, farm manager, product distribution and sales] product testing, etc.) that go into producing this super high quality pure and superior product.
There are many problems with Spirulina grown commercially throughout the polluted world. We set out to solve them and produce the cleanest purest most delicious and nutrient dense Spirulina possible.

    1. We invested over 5 years and over $1M to create a state of the art super-farm in USA Florida.

    2. The process is very labor intensive as the fragile cells must be harvested very carefully with special designed systems. This takes many hours to collect a small amount vs. commercial operations blasting theirs through spray drying machines, killing the fragile nutrients.

    3. Because our Spirulina is alive it must be shipped quickly in special custom coolers with ice bricks via FedEx so it gets to the consumer quickly. This is about 25% of the cost per package.

    4. We have a microbiologist who lives on site and monitors the systems every day.

    5. We use only the purest highest grade plant based nutrients available, unlike large commercial operations who use the cheapest.

So, taking all this into account, we are doing this to sincerely help strengthen the health of humanity. It is a mission that we take very seriously.

Not all Spirulina farms are created equal. It’s quality vs quantity.

Bottom line is: you get what you pay for. Question is how valuable is your health.
We choose to offer our product as the highest quality and density possible. Other companies offer algae products that consumers may consider comparable, however in reality they are NOT.

  • 5. What is the definition of the word “Raw” Food?

The term “Raw” is very misleading and most of the time is very inaccurate. Neither the FDA nor the USDA has set an official defiintion for the term Raw. Anyone can label their food product “raw” if they wanted. The term “raw” as most of us believe and understand is: any uncooked, fresh, unprocessed, and often organic food. This is far from realty. The term “raw” as applied to many products is far from the truth and is very misleading.

For example any powdered food of any kind is not raw by even the most basic definition of the word and stretch of the imagination. This is merely a marketing term. You probably have seen this word used on most spirulina powders.

In order to make a spirulina powder the fresh living spirulina must go through many processing steps including spray drying at high heat, (many add chemical fillers, binders, and flowing agents), packaging and long term storage, then irradiation at the port of entry to the USA. The process of spray drying explodes the cell structure of the spirulina into millions of pieces. It is no way a whole food as nature created.

  • 6. How do you insure quality control of your product?

Rest assured contamination from the surrounding environment is not a problem. The way our Royal Spirulina is grown is specifically designed to keep potential pollution, wildlife and foreign algae out of the system and out of the product. Spirulina is unique in that it only grows in high alkalinity (10+) water which prevents other organisms from growing in the water. Our farm is grateful to have superior clean water from our deep aquifer well, used both in the growing and rinsing of the Royal Spirulina which has been tested by Kar Laboratories.

We are Hippocrates Health Educators and live a 100% plant based lifestyle which eliminates the cross contamination of animal based organisms on the farm. The final step we take to ensure the purity of our product is extensive testing using Kappa Laboratories to maintain the high level nutritional and USDA food safety standards.

  • 7. Does Royal Spirulina help with heavy metal detox?

The first thing I would look into is the blood test or hair sample results to confirm the presence of excessive heavy metals. Once this is known for sure and depending on the amounts and symptoms, I would develop a lifestyle protocol you eliminate as best as possible all foods, creams, lotions, shampoos, clothing, soaps, water, home etc. that would be causing this. This should be the first step.

Second would be (based on the levels) to apply a detox protocol. Glutathione is one of the best for this. Infrared Sauna, lots of clean water, (distilled in glass) or natural spring in glass, colon hydrotherapy is essential to move the toxins out once they are removed from the tissues. The elimination channels must be kept very clean. No animal foods at all. They contain very high concentrated levels of heavy metals, especially fish.

Skin scrubbing, removing the dead skin cells, so sweating can occur naturally. Sweating is the best ways to eliminate heavy metals.

The body is pretty good at elimination if the pathways are clean and the intake levels are reduced.

Our Royal Spirulina was tested to have NO heavy metals. This is very important as the sponge is clean and free to absorb what is inside the body.

Spirulina reduced urine radioactivity levels by 50% in only 20 days.

It is very important to stay away from Spirulina powders especially those grown outside of the US, which is most because of the high levels of heavy metals in them. Spirulina is like a sponge. It absorbs whatever it comes in contact with, weather that be good nutrients or heavy metals. Most Spirulina is grown in open ponds in very polluted areas such as China, and India where the water and air is not safe.

Below is a list of the heavy metals found in Spirulina powders/tablets, etc.

  • 9. What is the difference between Royal Spirulina Living Spirulina and powdered Spirulina?

Royal Spirulina is a 100% truly a live whole food.

There is a huge difference between a cooked “raw” spirulina powder and fresh living spirulina. Living Spirulina contains all the essential nutrients required for humans to thrive in their bio-active form. Living Spirulina contains all the essential nutrients required for humans to thrive in their “bioactive” form. This is the key – “bioactive”. To create a spirulina powder companies use high heat spray drying machines which destroy the product removing all the life force and killing the vital nutrition. Removing the water removes life. Tests have shown a 2-3% bio-availability of powdered spirulina vs. over 95% bio-availability Living Spirulina.
Spirulina powders and supplements containing spirulina are reported to have a strong burnt taste and smell compared with our fresh Living Spirulina which has virtually no smell or taste. Dried spirulina products are created using extremely high heat, which degrades the vitamins, minerals, and protein, making fresh living extremely more nutritious.
Spirulina powders are not fresh by any stretch of the imagination. We had traced some batch numbers back 10 years ago when they were produced. Fresh Living Spirulina also provides greater creativity in how you can incorporate it into your meal.
All powdered spirulina is dead and not whole. The term “raw” spirulina powder is an oxymoron. “Raw” means uncooked and unprocessed. The process of creating a powder of any kind means some level of heat (generally high heat) and processing is applied to extract the water.
Royal Spirulina is not processed, heated, cooked, dehydrated, spray dried, sun-dried, pelletized, pasteurized, irradiated, or centrifuged. It is complete whole living food kept the way nature intended.

  • 10. How does Royal Spirulina cost compare to other brands?

The best way to explain is to compare the cost of other similar products, not only in direct pound for pound price but also in quality. Below are a few common Spirulina/Algae product prices below.

Hawaiian Spirulina: $4.54 per ounce $72.64 lb. (Whole Foods)

Whole Foods Brand: $3.00 per ounce $48.00 lb. (Whole Foods)

Spirulina Crunchies: $8.75 per ounce $140.00 lb. (Whole Foods)

    Sp2Life: $4.95 per ounce $79.29 lb.

E3Live frozen AFA: $38.00 per 16 ounces, plus shipping. (Density is 4.6% algae the rest is water)

  • 12. Does Royal Spirulina contain BMAA?

Analysis of β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) in spirulina-containing supplements by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

…we have analyzed ten spirulina-containing samples for the presence of BMAA; six pure spirulina samples from two separate raw materials suppliers, and four commercially-available multi-ingredient products containing 1.45 g of spirulina per 8.5 g serving. BMAA was not detected at low limits of detection (80 ng/g dry weight) in any of these product samples.

As Dr. Gregor points out very clearly here is that the main source of this BMAA is fish, seafood, etc.

Our spiruina is grown in enclosed greenhouses. We begin with a single perfect cell and grow our culture in a lab under controlled conditions. Our water is about as good as it gets. (Our lab tests available). There are no fish, crabs, oysters, etc. growing along with our spirulina.

  • 13. What if I can’t consume all of the product within the freshness time?

Upon receiving your Royal Spirulina you have the option to extend the shelf life by freezing.

Option 1: Spread out Royal Spirulina, as is, into ice cube trays with a small spatula and place in freezer for 2 days. You can then remove the tray and empty frozen cubes into ziplock bag and return to freezer or just leave in the ice cube tray. Remove one cube per day and place into your favorite beverage to thaw, consume immediately. Use within 3 months. Yield 32 1/2 ounce ice cubes (2X density)

Option 2: Empty glass jar into glass bowl and add in 16 ounces of pure water or combination of your favorite liquid (coconut water, fresh green juice, herbs, spices, etc.) Mix gently with whisk (no power mixing). Pour contents into ice cube trays and freeze for 24 hours. You can then remove the tray and empty frozen cubes into ziplock bag and return them to the freezer or just leave them in the ice cube tray. Remove one per day and place into your favorite beverage to thaw then consume immediately. Use within 3 months. Yield 64 1/2 ounce ice cubes (1X density).

We recommend using our soft silicone BPA free Peak Ice Cube trays with a covered lids. This will help protect the spirulina during the defrost cycles most home freezers go through.

  • 15. Does freezing Royal Spirulina effect the nutrition?

Freezing is like suspended animation of the nutrients. Freezing whole Royal Spirulina does rupture some of the cells however it does not completely destroy the nutrition like heating (powdered). Freezing reduces the nutritional value by approx. 5%. Home freezers go through regular defrost cycles and thus will further degrade the nutrient value of the Spirulina over time so it is best to consume within 3 months after freezing.
Most frozen vegetables and fruits in bags in the stores have been blanched (dipped in boiling water) to kill all enzymatic life before freezing.
Freezing commercial (algae) involves the pre-rupturing of cells in powerful centrifuges which destroy the cells, (specific to companies such as E3Live, etc.) which are done due to the location grown and the problems with contamination in these reservoirs.
Algae companies store their frozen product for months to years before thawing, packaging and refreezing. During this process water is generally added to the thawed product to dilute the breakdown of cells during this long processing to give the product a more uniform refreezing product and to increase profit margins by diluting the original density.
If freezing is done naturally, wholly and correctly with no processing, the cell structure stays mostly in tact. We have thawed our frozen Royal Spirulina, looked at the thawed cells under the microscope in our laboratory and have consistently seen whole cells. We have also been able to regrow the thawed cell after they were frozen for many months.
We have thawed many other frozen algae products and have found that the cells are not whole and will not re-grow.
Yes, frozen is way way better than any powder.
Freezing at home assures you that you are freezing a whole living product. You know the date it was frozen, you know how it was frozen and the time is was frozen before use. You are assured that no processing was done to the product.

  • 16. Why is there a sugar content in powdered Spirulina?

During the processing (spray drying, etc.) compaines add maltodextrin which is a synthetic sugar to their products. (be sure to check the labels). It should never be consumed.

Maltodextrin has a glycemic index ranging from 85 to 105.
Also, during the heating – cooking the lipids (fats) are converted to sugar.

  • 21. What can I expect to feel after consuming?

Royal Spirulina has a synergistic dual pathway approach to our systems. This pathway can be an inward direction as well as an outward within the body.

Depending on your diet and lifestyle, where you live and other internal factors the amounts of these pathways can vary.

    On a scale from 1-10:
1 = super clean perfectly healthy, 100% raw plant organic based food, with perfect biometrics, and lived outside in sunshine in the jungle. (Yea, doesn’t apply to to many)
10 = toxic sick, 100% cooked animal foods, disease, and living in a the center of a city, no sunshine.

The person at a 1 would feel 100% beautiful energy (phycocyanin) almost instantly. They would feel a clean high with no side effects or disruptions internally. The nutrients would enter and feed the cells, (inward cellular direction).
The person at a 10 would feel 100% detox (chlorophyll) almost instantly. They would experience disruptions in the entire body. As the scrubbing and cleaning action works to clear the system. The nutrients would not enter the cells, (outward cellar direction).

A person at a 5 may or may not experience detox symptoms nor feel dramatic energy until the body moves toward a more dominant direction.

Detox symptoms can include feeling nauseous, headache, sluggish, skin rashes, diarrhea, etc.

These symptoms will subside in time as the body cleans house as long as the reintroduction of toxic substances stop. Royal Spirulina will always move a person towards a number 1. Toxic lifestyle choices will move the body towards a 10.

When detox. symptoms occur it is important to drink lots of clean water and organic citrus fruits. (Spring water in glass), get lots of good sleep and allow the body to eliminate the debris. Helping the body through colon hydrotherapy, infrared sauna, skin scrubbing, vacation to #1 locations, will help accelerate this journey.

Be sure to consume the Royal Spirulina on an empty stomach first thing in the am.

Be sure to use it all with 14 days from date of harvest if kept in the refrigerator. (Usually 12-13 days from date you receive)
Use within 3 months if frozen.

  • 23. When is the best time to consume Royal Spirulina?

The best time to consume Royal Spirulina is first thing in the morning. This is because Spirulina does not contain cellulose fiber like most vegetables. The super dense nutrients contained inside the cell walls are like tiny water balloons. Once they enter the stomach they rupture releasing these living liquid nutrients. Within 15 minutes the micronutrients will permeate through the epitheal cell lining into the blood stream flooding your body with this vital nutrition.

    For Maximum absorption –

Raw Plant Based Lifestyle: Wait 30 minutes after eating

SAD (Standard American Diet) diet: Wait 3 hours after eating before consuming.

The best way is to consume is straight off the spoon first thing in the am on an empty stomach. This will provide the maximum available nutient absorbtion.

Our favorite is to add 1 tablespoon to fresh coconut water or a fresh green juice. Mix gently with a whisk.

We do not recommend blending because this will rupture the fragile cell walls, creating oxidation of the living nutrients.

YES! Royal Spirulina is the ONLY Spirulina that is truly alive. You can look at it under a microscope when you receive it and you will see the Spirulina cells moving around like they are dancing. Frozen, powder, or any processed Spirulina is not alive. It not longer contains the electrical vibrational energy that it had when it was alive and fresh. • 28. What is the “shelf life” of Royal Spirulina?

The “shelf-life” – from a microbiological standpoint is still good (safe to consume) at 61 days according to Kappa Labs (FDA and USDA – official Laboratories. See our recent test results.

However, from a “freshness” – standpoint, we recommend consuming within 12 days. Royal Spirulina has a very thin cellular structure wall and are like tiny water balloons. The green is the balloon (Chlorophyll) and the inside water is the (blue – phycocyanin). After 7 days in the refrigerator the cell walls (balloon) begin to break down releasing the vital liquid nutrients (blue phycocyanin) into the jar (you will see a blueish dark liquid) – a what point probiotic effects begins.

You can also freeze the spirulina into our ice cube trays to create a “suspended animation” halting this breakdown.

  • 30. Are there any concerns consuming Royal Spirulina if I have a shellfish allergy?

That is a very good question and one we have researched extensively due to this concern.

The allergic reactions some people have to shellfish is believed to be caused by tropomyosin – a protein found in the filaments of muscles.

Allergic reactions are directed to two major groups: fish and shellfish. Shellfish includes crustaceans and mollusks. In shellfish, crustaceans and mollusks, the protein tropomyosin (TM) seems to be the major allergen responsible for ingestion-related allergic reactions. Tropomyosin belongs to the family of actin filament-binding proteins with different isoforms that can be expressed in muscle, and non-muscle tissues. http://cdn.intechopen.com/pdfs/31774/InTech-Characterization_of_seafood_proteins_causing_allergic_diseases.pdf

Spirulina is not a fish nor a crustacean. Also Spirulina is not an ocean algae. It is a fresh water micro plant like organism with no muscle tissue, thus no muscle proteins.

In fact Spirulina Maxima has been shown in many studies to actually suppress allergic responses in humans quite powerfully. https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=spirulina+maxima+allergy&hl=en&as_sdt=0&as_vis=1&oi=scholart

So, based on this there is no connections or similarity between shellfish allergy and Spirulina.

  • 33. What is the difference between Spirulina and Chlorella?

Because they are both similar microalgae species, it’s easy to understand how scientists confused spirulina with chlorella back in the 1940s. In spite of their stark differences, people commonly mistake one for the other even today. Here are the four main differences that are important to understand:

    1. Shape

Spirulina is a spiral-shaped, multi-celled plant with no true nucleus. It’s blue-green in hue and can grow up to 100 times the size of chlorella. Comparably, chlorella is a spherical-shaped single-celled microorganism with a nucleus and is solid green.

    2. How It’s Grown

The growing conditions differ considerably. Spirulina grows best in high-alkaline fresh water alone — requires an abundance of sunshine and warm temperatures, making it easy to harvest.

Chlorella, on the other hand, grows in low-alkaline fresh water typically occupied by other organisms, which makes it more challenging to harvest.

    3. Preparation

The ways in which both spirulina and chlorella can be eaten are also very different. Because of its hard, indigestible cellulose wall, for instance, chlorella requires mechanical processing to make it worthwhile for human consumption. Otherwise, the body won’t be able break down and metabolize its nutrients.

The process can be quite costly not to mention very damaging to the fragile nutrients inside which explains why chlorella is usually more expensive than spirulina. On the other hand, spirulina has a completely digestible cell wall and can be immediately consumed and digested with ease with no processing.

    4. Nutrition

Although both are considered superfoods, spirulina and chlorella differ in their nutritional content. Arguably the healthier of the two, spirulina contains more essential amino acids, iron, protein, B vitamins, and vitamins C, D and E.

  • 34. How much protein is in Royal Spirulina?

Royal Spirulina is 60 – 70 percent bioavailable protein (depending on growth time of year) consisting of all 9 essential amino acids which the human body recognizes as the original foundational building block of nature. Royal Spirulina contains bioactive living natural Vitamin B-6 (unlike powders and pills) which is an essential precursor to protein absorption.
Our fresh Royal Spirulina is 16 ounces 100% pure living Spirulina per bag.
It is 20% total solids which converts to 3.2 ounces.
70% of that is pure protein, which is 2.24 ounces
This converts to 63.5 grams of protein per bag
Or 3.96 grams per 1 ounce serving

  • 37. What is the blue in Spirulina?

The liquid inside the cell is phycocyanin, a blue pigment present in only Spirulina. This pigment is a very powerful antioxidant found in Spirulina and is the primary source of its high protein and nutritional profile. Phycocyanin is a characteristic light blue color, absorbing orange and red light, particularly near 620 nm (depending on which specific type it is), and emits fluorescence at about 650 nm (also depending on which type it is). Phycocyanin is from the Greek phyco meaning “algae” and cyanin is from the English word “cyan”, which conventionally means a shade of blue-green (close to “aqua”) and is derived from the Greek “kyanos” which means a somewhat different color: “dark blue”.

  • 38. What is the green in Spirulina?

The green pigments (phytonutrients) in Spirulina are chlorophyll, a term used for several closely related green pigments found in cyanobacteria and the chloroplasts of algae and plants. Its name is derived from the Greek words χλωρός, chloros (“green”) and φύλλον, phyllon (“leaf”). Chlorophyll is an extremely important biomolecule, critical in photosynthesis, which allows plants to absorb energy from light. Chlorophyll absorbs light most strongly in the blue portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, followed by the red portion.
You may have heard a lot of buzz surrounding the healthiness of vegetables, especially leafy green vegetables with deep, rich color tones. In many ways, they’re perfect foods and part of the credit is owed to the chlorophyll they contain. Research also suggests it’s instrumental in promoting good health.

  • 46. How do you grow Royal Spirulina?

We grow our spirulina in enclosed greenhouses in Vero Beach Florida in the center of organic farming country. We use only the highest quality plant based food grade nutrients available.

We maintain our water quality, temperature, PH and only feed our Spirulina natural and organic minerals and Florida sunshine. We monitor our growing operation on a daily basis with routine daily checks.

Our water source originates from the center Floridian Aquifer which is sandwiched between the surface aquifer and the ultra deep water by different subterranean layers and is accessed from between 400 and 800 feet below the surface. It is also highly mineralized making it ideal for Spirulina and the subsequent nutritional value. Vero Beach is known to have some of the best water in Florida which is another reason why we chose this location. Our water also does not contain chlorine, fluoride, or harsh chemicals found in municipal water systems.

  • 47. How do you harvest Royal Spirulina?

We have designed our own unique proprietary harvesting system that we feel marks our distinction between all others which allows us to produce such a high quality healthy & delicious product. Our system has been fine tuned over many years of trials and testing to now have the ability to capture the highest quality living spirulina cells from the greenhouse water.

Spirulina cells range in size and shape as well as where they are in their life cycle. Our system of delicately harvesting the Spirulina at the peak of their development as well as their quality is important to us. We verify this on a daily basis by looking at our water and cells under a microscope in our laboratory before and after each harvest.

  • 48. Is Royal Spirulina certified organic?

Although you may see the term “Organic” on some Spirulina products on the internet and in stores, the truth is that Spirulina is a plant that grows in water, something a kin to hydroponics. So that being said, it is not the intention of the USDA to deem an aquatic plant Organic…it must grow is soil in order to fall under the guidelines of the definition.

There is still a debate on how the USDA will resolve the issue so until then we will continue to grow organically but not hold certification until a ruling has been made. Our Royal Spirulina is grown in fresh spring water that we maintain full control over. We use only natural and organic minerals in our growth medium.

It’s important to explain “organic standards” when it comes to spirulina. USDA organic standards were developing for dirt-and-soil farming. But spirulina is an “aquaculture” crop, meaning it’s grown in large pools of water, not dirt.

Spirulina requires an abundant source of nitrogen, and the USDA says that organic farmers need to use manure (or compost tea) as a source of nitrogen. But that would be gross in large pools of water, right? You wouldn’t dump cow manure into large pools of spirulina and call that “organic,” would you? That’s the kind of thing the USDA wants spirulina growers to do as part of being considered organic.

We use clean sources of nitrogen and phosphorous that have nothing to do with animal feces. We wouldn’t even think of dumping animal waste into our pools! That would increase the bacteria count and contaminate the entire crop with alarming levels of heavy metals.

So, that’s why our spirulina is not “certified organic”. In our view, it’s actually CLEANER than organic, and no animal feces is used in its production (thank goodness). We always choose organic when it comes to dirt-grown foods like berries, non-GMO corn, etc., but when it comes to aquaculture (i.e. foods grown in pools of water), the USDA organic standards just make no sense. (The USDA needs to radically update their organic standards for aquaculture.)

  • 5. Is Royal Spirulina really alive?

You could certainly use Royal Spirulina as a culture to grow your own if you desire.
